An identity seldom comes alone: Our origin, gender, sexual orientation, class, age, mental and physical condition, religion, and more, determine our privileges or marginalization in society. The concept of intersectionality focuses on the fact that people are often disadvantaged not only because of one but several aspects of identity, i.e. they are discriminated against in multiple ways.
What about intersectional perspectives in film? Is diversity enough to narrate the experience of intersectionality in film and TV? How do filmmakers of color deal with it in their films and what are their demands to the industry and audience? Raquel Kishori Dukpa (FUTUR DREI), Lisa Smith and Maissa Lihedheb will discuss these important questions with moderator Şeyda Kurt. With a video introduction to intersectionality by Dr. Emilia Roig.
